What Are Outcomes and How to Use Them

Outcomes are a simple but powerful way to track where your patients are in their clinical journey. By assigning an outcome after each appointment, you create a clear, structured overview of what needs to happen next.

Using outcomes consistently helps ensure that no patient is overlooked and that follow up actions are completed in a timely manner.

Where to Find Outcomes

On the patient card, scroll to the bottom.

You will see a grey drop down menu labelled Outcome.

Clicking this drop down will display a list of available outcomes, such as:

  • Attended

  • Attended needs follow up

  • Leave an open appointment

  • Awaiting procedure

  • Post procedure

  • Awaiting test

Select the outcome that best reflects the patient’s current status following their appointment.

Why Outcomes Matter

Outcomes allow you to:

  • Track patients through their clinical pathway

  • Identify patients awaiting procedures or tests

  • Monitor follow up requirements

  • Maintain a clear overview of clinic activity

It is good practice to assign an outcome to every patient seen in clinic. This ensures that each patient has a defined next step recorded within the system.

How to Filter by Outcome

You can quickly review patients by outcome using filters.

  1. Click on the Patient icon at the top of the platform.

  2. Use the filter options for Appointment Status.

  3. Select the status you wish to review.

The appointment status mirrors the outcome selected on the patient card.

Practical Examples

  • At the end of each week, filter by Awaiting procedure to confirm that all patients have been given procedure dates.

  • Filter by Awaiting test to ensure results are chased and reviewed.

  • Review Attended needs follow up to confirm follow up appointments are booked.

Best Practice

Make it a routine to assign an outcome immediately after each clinic consultation.

Consistent use of outcomes provides structure, improves patient safety, and gives you full visibility of your patient journey at all times.
